HM The King becomes patron of the Léonie Sonning Music Prize

It is with great pleasure that today, as we celebrate this year’s recipient of the Léonie Sonning Music Prize 2024 in Odense, we can also share the news that H.M. King Frederik X will become the patron of the Léonie Sonning Music Prize for the next five years.

Back at the very first Léonie Sonning Music Prize concerts in 1959 and 1965, His Majesty King Frederik IX was present. Since then, Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II and other members of the Royal Family have attended several prize concerts, continuing a beautiful tradition that is now being expanded through this patronage.
At the Léonie Sonning Music Foundation, we look forward to celebrating some of our time’s most important classical musicians with the Royal Family and, of course, with the Danish music audience in the coming years. This begins in the most beautiful way tonight, May 30th, with Her Majesty Queen Mary in attendance to present the Léonie Sonning Music Prize 2024 to flutist Emmanuel Pahud, states Esben Tange, chairman of the board of the Léonie Sonning Music Foundation.
