Léonie Sonning Talent Prize 2013
Copenhagen Piano Quartet is a young piano quartet with roots in Denmark, the Czech Republic and Poland. The quartet was formed in 2010 and studies as an ensemble in the soloist class with Tim Frederiksen and Jens Elvekjær at The Royal Danish Academy of Music. In 2011, Copenhagen Piano Quartet has received a prize at the Val Tidone International Chamber Music Competitions in Italy; in 2012 the quartet won 1st prize in the Academy of Music’s chamber music competition as well as 3rd prize in the International Johannes Brahms Competition in Austria. The quartet gives a considerable number of concerts.
Biography

The violinist Benedikte Damgaard studies under Serguei Azizian in the soloist class at The Royal Danish Academy of Music. In 2011 she supplemented her studies with a stay in Berlin. Winner of the Jacob Gade Violin Competition in 2004. She has been a soloist with, among others, The Copenhagen Philharmonic and Aalborg Symphony Orchestra and has given chamber music concerts at home and abroad. Most recently in an intense series with Copenhagen Piano Quartet. Recipient of a grant from the Betty og Valdemar van Hauens Fond. She plays on a Stradivarius on loan from The Royal Danish Academy of Music.
The viola player Kristina Fialova was born in the Czech Republic and qualified from the academy of music in Brno. Since 2007 she has studied at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, and since has studied under Tim Frederiksen at The Royal Danish Academy of Music. She has won prizes in a number of international competitions in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, England, Scotland, Italy, New York and Denmark, and has been a soloist in concert halls and at festivals in a great many countries. She plays on a Carl Giuseppe Testore Contrada from 1745.
The cellist Adam Stadnicki studies under Morten Zeuthen in the soloist class at The Royal Danish Academy of Music. He has also studied under Roland Pidoux and Xavier Phillips at the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Paris. In 2011 he began his studies at Manhattan School of Music in New York under David Geber. In 2012 he won the Royal Danish Academy of Music’s cello competition. In 2011 he was soloist in Dvorak’s cello concerto with Amatørsymfonikerne in Copenhagen.
The pianist Neel Teilmann made her debut in 2012 from the soloist class at The Royal Danish Academy of Music, since when she has been active as a soloist, chamber player and lieder accompanist. She has studied under Amalie Malling and Jens Elvekjær. She has additionally studied for two years under Eero Heinonen at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki. Neel Teilmann won the Danish Steinway Competition in 2004 and has also received a grant from the Betty og Valdemar van Hauens Fond. She has appeared as a soloist with a number of Danish orchestras, including The Copenhagen Philharmonic in 2010.

Scholarship from the Léonie Sonning Music Foundation
Copenhagen Piano Quartet has received a scholarship of DKK 120,000. The scholarship is to be used for participation in the Charles Hennen international chamber music competition in the Netherlands, studying under Stephan Picard and Tabea Zimmermann in Berlin, a master class with the Fauré Quartette in Karlsruhe, lessons with the Talich Quartet in Prague and Avo Kouyoumdjan in Vienna.
