Career so far

After having trained and worked as a dancer with the Royal Danish Ballet, Martin Stauning (b. 1982) graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Music in the soloist class under Hans Abrahamsen and Niels Rosing-Schow. Martin Stauning has written music for a variety of ensembles and has worked with sound installation and performance. He is careful with his material in heavily concentrated sequences, and poetic fragility and the absurd exist side-by-side with the overall musical expressions. Martin Stauning is also an active performer and – in addition to his own works – he has performed works by John Cage, Alvin Lucier and Jeppe Ernst. In these solo performances, he works with the physical manipulation of sound through bodily interaction with the surroundings.
