August Schieldrop

LÉONIE SONNING TALENT PRIZE 2024

Norwegian August Schieldrop was born in Oslo in 1999, and since the age of ten, he has fallen in love with the tuba after first playing baritone horn and French horn. In Oslo, he attended Majorstua Music School and the Barratt Due Music Institute, while he took a higher education at the Academy of Music in Oslo and then the soloist programme at the Royal Danish Academy of Music.

His career has included performances with the Oslo Philharmonic, Bergen Philharmonic and the Norwegian Radio Symphony Orchestra, while August has also played at chamber music festivals in Scandinavia and given concerts in Europe and the USA. He was even named Talent of the Year 2020 in Norway and received the Equinor Talent Award in 2021.

The money accompanying the Léonie Sonning Talent Award will be used exclusively for commissioning new works for tuba, as few tuba concertos and sonatas are available on the market.
