Niklas Walentin Jensen gained 2nd prize in The International Carl Nielsen Violin Competition in 2012, where he also received the prize for the best interpretation of Carl Nielsen’s works and for the best interpretation of Ib Nørholm’s “Ménage à trois”. At the finale concerts he was the soloist with the Odense Symphony Orchestra in the violin concertos of Carl Nielsen and Tchaikovsky respectively. He has been awarded numerous prizes, the latest being the Danish Radio P2 Talent Prize 2013 for ‘interpreting with youthful zest and naturalness both popular and lesser known works for solo violin’.

Biography

Niklas Walentin Jensen (b. 1994) has played the violin since the age of six. He studies under the violinist and composer Søren Elbæk as well as at The Royal Danish Academy of Music under Eszter Haffner.

As a soloist, Niklas Walentin Jensen has appeared with orchestras at home and abroad. He has won a gold medal and the Talent Prize at the Berlingske Tidende Classical Music Competition, 1st prize in the Øresund Soloist and in the Jakob Gade Violin Competition, 2nd prize and soloist with DR UnderholdningsOrkestret in DR2’s Spil for Livet and 4th prize and soloist with the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra in The Danish Strings Competition.

Solo issue with the Danish CD company Classico, January 2013.
Chamber concerts with the pianist Ulrich Stærk and soloist with the Danish regional orchestras in 2013 and 2014.

Scholarship from the Léonie Sonning Music Foundation

Niklas Walentin Jensen has received a scholarship of DKK 60,000.
The scholarship is to be used for two trips to England in spring 2013: participation in the International Musicians Seminar Prussia Cove, Windsor Festival and Carl Flesch International Violin Competition.
